JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri casino employees will serve as responsible gaming ambassadors during the casino industry’s 19th annual Responsible Gaming Education Week, August 1 through 5.
Responsible Gaming Education Week was created by the American Gaming Association in 1998 to increase awareness of problem gambling issues and promote responsible gaming practices nationwide.
Across Missouri, casino employees will educate employees and patrons with responsible gaming messages during Responsible Gaming Education Week. Free brochures including “Play Responsibly,” “Get to Know Slot Machines,” “Understand the Odds,” and “Responsible Player Guidelines and Characteristics” are available at many Missouri casinos.
“Responsible gaming is an ongoing priority of our Missouri casino employees, from top executives to front-line team members,” said Mike Winter, executive director of the Missouri Gaming Association. “During Responsible Gaming Education Week, our casinos expand on the work they do every day to inform employees and patrons about the issue.”
St. Jo Frontier Casino employees will participate in responsible gaming quizzes to sharpen their knowledge. The casino also will set up an educational display at the entrance of the casino to educate guests.
Mark Twain Casino hosts and management will offer responsible gaming brochures and ribbons to guests as they enter the casino. Life Crisis Center will train employees how to recognize gaming that is not responsible and assist guests who cross the line. Videos and signs will reinforce the responsible gaming message, and team members will wear “Play Responsibly” wristbands and buttons to inspire conversations about responsible gaming. Employees will be treated to interactive games, prizes, commemorative t-shirts and themed food specials to bolster their knowledge.
Ameristar Kansas City will display Responsible Gaming messages via posters, daily emails, and departmental meetings. Team members will participate in daily quizzes with prizes to promote the Responsible Gaming message.
Isle of Capri – Kansas City will provide American Gaming Association materials and team members will wear responsible gaming buttons all week. Employees will participate in a mandatory refresher training on responsible gaming, alcohol consumption and tobacco sales/consumption.
Isle Casino Cape Girardeau employees will participate in a responsible gaming annual refresher training, a quiz, puzzles and trivia competitions. Educational materials are available to patrons and employees.
Argosy Casino Hotel and Spa in Kansas City will post responsible gaming information on their Facebook page to educate patrons. They also will deliver responsible gaming messages and giveaways to patrons during their Crazy 4 Card Poker instruction sessions Tuesday through Thursday. Team members will be treated to a Responsible Gaming Week kick-off party, participate in puzzles and drawings, and wear wristbands with a responsible gaming message.
Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles team members will participate in daily quizzes for prizes. Messages about the week’s activities will be posted in the employee newsletter and weekly video during department pre-shifts, and educational posters will be displayed in employee areas.
River City Casino will provide daily educational programming to team members during pre-shifts and via email. Team members also will test their knowledge of responsible gaming by completing quizzes for a chance to win prizes.
The Missouri Gaming Association and its casino company members sponsor and fund year-round programs to address responsible gaming issues. Every Missouri casino property has a designated employee who serves as the director of responsible gaming programs for that location.
Missouri’s ongoing responsible gaming programs include:
• 1-888-BETSOFF – a statewide telephone crisis line and referral service for problem gambling.
• Project 21 – a scholarship competition that addresses underage gambling;
• Operation Bet Smart – an awareness program that focuses on compulsive gambling;
• Alcohol Awareness Programs – promote responsible consumption of alcohol.
