JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI – The 10th annual Midwest Conference On Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse will address addiction issues among military, teens, gay and lesbian populations, and others; and treatment approaches to deal with related anxiety, trauma and relationships with money. The conference will be held at the Hilton Kansas City Airport from June 26 through June 28.
The three-day, multi-state summit features internationally and nationally renowned experts in the fields of problem gambling, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Last year, the conference hosted more than 200 attendees from throughout the country.
“The gaming industry wholeheartedly supports the conference and its efforts to develop the most effective ways to treat problem gambling and substance abuse,” said Mike Winter, executive director of the Missouri Gaming Association. Representatives of the Missouri Gaming Association and Missouri casinos will attend the conference along with a representative of Provident, Inc. in St. Louis, which operates the toll-free 24/7 problem gambling help line 1-888-BETSOFF (1-888-238-7633).
The conference is sponsored by the Midwest Consortium on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse, a collaboration of treatment and prevention providers, educators, public policy makers and representatives of the Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Oklahoma gaming industry. The Missouri Gaming Association is a member of the Midwest Conference Planning Consortium. For more details, visit www.888betsoff.org.
